Celebrating 27 Years: Scott’s Journey at Euro Commercials

This year, Euro Commercials is proud to celebrate a remarkable milestone as Scott Williams marks 27 years with the business—an achievement that reflects dedication, adaptability and a genuine passion for the industry.

Scott joined the company in July 1999 as a parts apprentice, working towards an NVQ in Parts Supply and Distribution. Stepping into a large organisation representing a globally recognised brand like Mercedes-Benz, his early days were defined by both excitement and ambition.

“Back then, it felt more like a family-run business,” Scott recalls. “We had just moved into the current head office on Ipswich Road, and it really felt like the start of a new chapter for the company’s growth. The founder was around every day, and everyone knew each other—it had a very close-knit feel.”

​From Apprentice to Sales Specialist

Scott’s career began with hands-on responsibilities—managing stock, supporting the workshop, and even stepping in on deliveries when needed. After completing his NVQ, he secured a full-time role in the parts department, marking his first major milestone.

It wasn’t long before new opportunities emerged. In 2003, as the sales team expanded, Scott was offered the chance to transition into sales—a move that would shape the rest of his career.

“That’s when I found my calling,” he says. “It opened up a completely new side of the business for me.”

Over the years, Scott’s role has continuously evolved. Starting in used vehicle sales across both vans and trucks, he later made a pivotal decision in 2009 when the departments split.

“I chose to focus on vans—I really enjoyed the fast-paced nature of that side of the business.”

Along the way, Scott has built an impressive skillset, including achieving his HGV licence, developing expertise in sales negotiation and finance, and completing Mercedes-Benz training programmes. His knowledge of commercial vehicle regulations and customer needs has been key to his long-term success.

Like any long career, it hasn’t been without its challenges. Changes in leadership and direction within the sales team required resilience and adaptability.

“With each change came different visions and structures, but I’ve always adapted and focused on doing my best in the role.”

Reflecting on 27 years, it’s the people and experiences that stand out most.

“I’ve met so many different characters—colleagues and customers alike—that’s been a real highlight.”

One of the most memorable periods was during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It was the strangest time. The business closed for a few months and no one knew what would happen next. It really put things into perspective.”

Scott credits much of his journey to the people around him, particularly those who supported him early on.

“The biggest influences were in my first years—especially Ismael Egal, the parts manager who employed me, and Rob Manchip, who gave me the opportunity to move into sales.”

He believes Euro Commercials’ commitment to its people is what encourages long service.

“They genuinely care about their staff. It’s a clean, safe and positive working environment, and there are real opportunities to progress within the company.”

Over time, he’s also seen the culture evolve.

“It’s definitely more relaxed now. Back in the day, it was shirts and ties every day—no exceptions!” he laughs.

What’s kept Scott motivated after 27 years?

“I genuinely enjoy the job—every day is different. There are always new challenges, and there’s no room for boredom.”

For those starting out in the industry, his advice is simple:

“The motor industry offers so many opportunities. It’s essential to the supply chain, and there’s always room to grow.”

As for the future, Scott is excited to see how the industry evolves.

“It’ll be interesting to see whether we go fully electric, or if alternative fuels play a bigger role—or whether diesel and petrol remain for years to come.”
