Driving Lessons, Theory Tests & Driving Tests Restart

Following suspension of tests and lessons during the Covid-19 crisis, driving lessons and theory tests restart in England on 4 July, and car driving tests restart from 22 July.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) announced that learners can resume private practice too—on the condition that it is with someone you live with or is in your support bubble.

According to the DVSA, theory tests have been planned with new social distancing measures in place to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

The DVLA says the later July date for car driver tests will give learner drivers time to have refresher lessons and practice before taking their test.

Driving lessons, theory tests and driving tests are still suspended in Scotland and Wales, in line with guidance from the devolved administrations. There are different dates for Northern Ireland, but tests can be booked from 1 July.

Gareth Llewellyn, DVSA Chief Executive, said: “Tests for critical workers have continued during the lockdown and I would like to thank all those instructors and examiners who have continued to work to help deliver tests for those who have done so much to help us during this terrible pandemic.”

Dates for commencement of tests for other types of vehicle have been announced.
